Artist *Karry-Ann Scorpian*
Karry-Ann Scorpian was born in St. Catherine Jamaica W.I. raised in Pembroke Hall, St. Andrew.
As a child growing up she remembered listening to music and even those stories on the radio that would arouse her imagination because at that time Jamaica only had one television station JBC and as a child most of her leisure time was spent listening to music on the radio dancing and interacting with nature more so than watching television.
As kids Karry-Ann, her older sister and younger brother would play beats at the table during breakfast and give themselves artist names while taking turns to perform. Her family did and still do enjoy music together.
Karry-Ann listened to reggae, the Top 40 with Casey Kasem R&B, lovers rock, calypso, soca and country music. She went up and down the dials Karry-Ann was not afraid to explore the different stations and what the offer in fact I loved it. I started writing music 2009 and recording 2010.
Karry-Ann wrote poetry during her high school years and have always challenged herself to write music, but it just did not connect. So Karry-Ann’s motto is music chose her when it was ready for her. However since age 8 Karry-Ann was able to hear her voice grow stronger and stronger. As Karry-Ann was in the choir at church and at school. Karry-Ann had always been involved in some sort form of art singing, dancing, poetry etc. Karry-Ann inspiration varies and sometimes Karry-Ann would hear a beat and the words just start flowing with the melody as she started to write. Then there is the emotional writing where Karry-Ann would be going thru a feeling of love, excitement, peace or even anger. Also when Karry-Ann would hear a song sang by a male artist Karry-Ann sometimes would get inspired to write a female version answer back song. In essence music comes to Karry-Ann in many different ways Music, Family love, Prayers, Fruits and Sun Shine.
Icons that have inspired Karry-Ann as a music performing artist; to name a few artist that grew up on and still enjoy listening to, Bob Marley, Sade, Roberta Flack, John Holt, Ken Boothe, Carpenters, Pinchers, Papa San, Sanchez, Culture Joseph Hill, Third World, Marcia Griffiths, J.C.
